This native of Atlantic City, New Jersey uses his ingenious word combinations to inspire, educate and ignite the evolution of a better world.

Born George Smith, he changed his name to Mahdi Salaam and began his poetic career. His poems are energetic, dynamic, and dramatic. Appointed “The Poet Laureate”, (the Library of Congress implemented this title) this was legislated as his official title on December 7, 2011 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Mr. Salaam was honored along with President Barack Obama (who was absent) during
the Pennsylvania Legislative’s Black History Month Celebration at the State Capitol Rotunda on July 1, 2009 in Harrisburg, PA.
This is historical – WHY? This Ingenious Poet issues from the blood line of Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. “Genetically they exist in me – we are from the same pedigree; the Davis name preceded me –we have similar philosophies “. The Ingenious Poet.
He sees his distinctive poetry as a proclamation of justice and hope for all, in a literate society. Mr. Salaam spent numerous years in federal prison for possession of two kilograms of cocaine. His repertoire includes:

MISSION STATEMENT
Should a Street Reputation Supersede Education?
To Be Wise Is Being Compromised!
We come before you with a bleeding heart, this is of an urgent matter, we must stop the bleeding. We are calling on the Calvary to help us. This Too Young to Die poem is disheartening us and we feel compelled to lead the Calvary. This shirt should be on every child in America. To make this mission successful, we are calling on everybody! This Too Young to Die campaign must bear your name.
OUR PURPOSE
We live in a country where there is over 300 million people. Our purpose is to sell a minimum of one million “Too Young to Die” shirts at $20. This will give us $20 million, in which we will purchase closed schools and convert them into trade schools, shelters, and housing for abused women and children throughout the United States.
To add to this, we also have the fortune "Four Poems" which are 18'x24” which can come in wood, aluminum, gold, etc.:

These five poems could be packaged at $125.00. Selling a minimum of one million will give us $125 million could get us to purchase additional closed schools and convert them into trade schools across the United States. The combination of selling shirts and poetry should give us a $145 million project.
